In Latin America and the Caribbean: MasterCard
It surpassed Punta Cana, Lima and Buenos Aires, among other tourist sites in the region.
The tenth Index of Global Destination Cities of Mastercard confirmed a trend that has remained constant for a few years: tourists’ preference for Cancun.
This year, Cancun is still the number 1 destination in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) for travelers, adding more than 6 million international visitors overnight, reports the MasterCard study.
The MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index adds that an international traveler has an average stay of 6.1 nights in Cancun. In addition, it reports a daily expense of $ 146 at the destination.
Punta Cana occupies the second position, followed by the Riviera Maya, which rose one place compared to last year. Both destinations registered more than 3 million international visitors with overnight stays.
Mexico City is the third national destination in the top 10 of MasterCard, and this year occupies the fourth position, also with more than 3 million international overnight stays per year.
The study confirms the predominant status of the United States as a provider of tourists to the region. This being the first country of origin for tourists in 7 of the 10 main destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Cancun.
